songwriters round 5, 30th october 2002, no black tie...

-report-

performed at Songwriter's Round 5 at No Black Tie last night...  while Pete Teo's currently busy with recording his album...  Lorna Tee and Jerome Kugan took over the cockpit and organised Round 5 and made it into a "reunion round" thingy where all the performers from the past rounds were invited to play this time...

there were two sets to the show last night...  i played in the first set with Julian Mokhtar (I grew up wanting to be this man and playing with him on the same stage was just sooooo surreal...  and he is a super nice guy to boot)... Tan Sei Hon (another cool guy and a very Counting Crows-esque performer and songwriter)... and Mei Chern (she's got a voice so sweet that almost made me weep)...

we played 4 songs each and i started the round with It Took A While...  the sound system got a little freaky on me at the beginning of the song but seeing that there's nothing much that i could do from up there...  and being the soldier that i am...  i played on...  hehehe...  the sound got better near the end of the song...  so...  no biggie... the second song i played was a cover of Def Leppard's All I Want Is Everything followed by a song i very recently wrote...  Havent You Got A Clue?...  i finished my performance with a cover of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust...

after the first set and a short break...  the 2nd set performers got on stage and did their thing...  there was Jerome...  one half of the organising team...  Sherry and Sasha...  Pete Teo joined them halfway through the set and brought along an ehru player and together with Sherry they gave us a sneak peek of what to expect on his upcoming album...  good good stuff...

the open-mic session boasted some excellent performers too...  i particularly got extra blown away by two of them last night...  Shanon played the piano and sang...  the man has got real good pipes to go with his "terror" playing and super songs...  very broadway and very uplifting...  i also really really really enjoyed Reshmonu's performance...  he's got this real cool soul R&B "flava" to his songs...  he's got an album out and I've heard him a few times on the radio...  the guy's got style and the guy's got talent...  keep a look out for this two people and get blown away...

had a hell of a good time and can't wait for the next time...  thanks to Lorna and Jerome for inviting me...  thanks to all the performers for making last night so wonderful...  thanks to Arisha, Aida and Ken for your support...  thanks everyone for coming...  hope everyone enjoyed themselves 'cause i definitely did...
